The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a richly integrated curriculum of education and research to keep in pace with the changing needs of educational standards. The course intends to apply the principles of materials science to the creation, design, maintenance and analysis of mechanical systems. The Department intends to bring out the abilities of the students and create a strong foundation for generating professionals in the field of Mechanical Engineering.The Department offers certificate course in German language for providing placement opportunities in Germany based mechanical industries

The Department is Accredited by NBA(National Board of Accreditation)

The department offers the following courses:

  • 4 year UG course – B.E. Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 year PG course – M.E. Engineering Design
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
 

 

About the Department

 
 
    • The Department enriches the students into knowledgeable quality professionals and takes a leading edge as proficient Engineers and Entrepreneurs to create a paradigm shift in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
    • The Department has CAD/CAM lab with Inventor, PTC-Creo, Solidworks, Automation studio,LabVIEW, ANSYS, Strength of Materials Lab, Thermal Lab, Heat Transfer Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Lathe Workshop, Mechatronics Lab and Dynamics Lab that provides course oriented practical experience.
    • e-Yantra, an exclusive lab established through IIT Bombay, provides a platform for the students to understand the industrial applications of Robotics and Embedded system.
    • Students are members in various professional bodies like Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF)(Biggest chapter in India-353 students), Society of Automobile Engineering(SAE- for events baja and supra), ISTE, Indian Welding Society, CII and Coimbatore Productivity Council.
    • e -Yantra, an exclusive Robotics & Embedded systems laboratory established through IIT Bombay, provides a platform for the students to understand the industrial applications of Robotics and Embedded system.
    • Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal VikasYojana (PMKVY). PMKVY is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood. Individuals with prior learning experience or skills will also be assessed and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POs)

PO1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the fundamental knowledge of mathematics, science and Engineering for the solution of complex Engineering problems.
PO2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and Engineering sciences.
PO3 Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex Engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4 Conduct investigations of complex problems: Using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5 Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern

Engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex Engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6 The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional Engineering practice.
PO7 Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional Engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for the sustainable development.
PO8 Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and     norms of the engineering practice.
PO9 Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO10 Communication: Communicate effectively on complex Engineering activities with the Engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PO11 Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO12 Life-long learning:  Recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

Graduates of a Mechanical Engineering Programme should be able to:

PSO 1 Apply the Mechanical Engineering principles to solve Engineering problems utilising advanced technology in the domain of design, thermal, fluid sciences and robotics.
PSO 2 Take part as an entrepreneur or professional in industries by applying manufacturing and management practices for the advancement of society and self.

The Department fosters the technical, critical thinking, and communication skills necessary for students to contribute to the engineering profession and to the well-being of society. Our efforts are put in to develop the ability among students to synthesize data and technical concepts for application to a product design. We strive to ensure that all our young students have a strong education with leadership, management and teaming skills, internship experience, and involvement in student activities. Our objective is not to merely produce professionals capable to serve their own needs but serve the society with great concern for human values.
